It was wonderful to get home to all things familiar. Thanks to everyone who sent beautiful thoughtful cards and who posted well wishes for my family. My Dad is having a difficult time and we are blessed by my sister Marlene who is able to stay with Dad for a bit longer.
To have so many miles between elderly parents and their children is not a well thought out plan. I hope that people think and pray about moving away from family and if they do when it’s appropriate to move back. Time together can never be caught up on with a visit here and there. I understand there is something call “quality time”, but sharing everyday occurrences and everyday life is also very valuable and precious.
I will get off my soap box now, but, it makes me so sad to think that the last months of my Mom’s life was talking to her children over the phone and not in person. I will forever remember our parting words on each and every phone call: I love you Mom followed up by my Mom saying: I love you too Cheryl. Which I’m sure were the same loving words she had for all of her other 5 children, whom she never forgot. On one call my Mom didn’t know who I was, but, with that one exception, she kept hold of the voices of her children despite the ravages of Alzheimer’s.
When scheduling tomorrow’s class I had no idea that I would be going through the loss of my Mom. The class is entitled: Thinking of you cards. Appropriate, don’t you think? Here are a few of the cards we will be making:
Here’s a very sweet simple card. White on white with a splash of strawberry slush. The verse and the feather are from one of our newest photopolymer stamp sets called Lovely Amazing You, item #140594.
This card also uses one of the monthly photopolymer stamp sets called Banner Blessings, item #136720. I stamped the greeting on vellum and them embossed it in black. Hard to tell here, but, I them colored the back of the word “friend” with a blackberry bliss marker. The little punched out flowers hide the glue dots holding the vellum onto the raised up designer paper. I used one of our heart framelits to cut out the heart which frames the beautiful verse.
This card is a bit more colorful. It uses the stamp set Celebrate Today and the Birthday Bash designer paper. The opening of the card is in the middle, so the balloons open up to reveal the inside message. I used the matching framelits to cut out the balloons and the flags which are cut from the designer washi sheets.
I still have room for you tomorrow if you would like to make these three cards plus two more, (yet to be determined)!
